Autumn Centerpieces

November is here and the season for entertaining has arrived as well.  Here are some fabulous fall centerpiece ideas, for not just Thanksgiving, but the entire season.

Autumn leaves:  You don't have to look too hard to find beautiful colorful leaves this time of year.  Collect some lovely leaves of different varieties and colors.  Fill a tall, clear glass cylinder vase with the leaves and scatter some more on the table surrounding the vase.  This centerpiece is simple, cheap, and gorgeous.

Acorns:  Similar to our autumn leaf centerpiece, collect acorns and fill clear glass candle holders and hurricanes of various sizes and shapes with the acorns.  Nestle ivory pillar candles into the acorns.  Another simple, inexpensive, and beautiful idea.

Cornucopia:  Cornucopias are often the symbol of the harvest season, but they make beautiful centerpieces.  Fill a horn or basket with fruits and vegetables from the season. Choose a variety of colors and textures and be sure to let the produce spill out.

Wheat:  Wonderful wheat bundles can be purchased at flower markets or home decor stores, but why not make your own.  Simply gather several wheat stems and place in a small glass. Surround the wheat bouquets with votives.

Flowers:  Flowers are always lovely but think of new and different ways to display bouquets instead of just in a vase.  We found this arrangement on marthastewart.com.  Martha took a white pumpkin and filled it with a stunning bouquet of flowers in all shades of orange.  Smaller pumpkins and amber glass votives surround the large arrangement.

When putting together a centepiece for the fall season consider color:  oranges, muted greens, golds, ambers, rusts, browns, and reds all look beautiful together and reflect the colors of the season.

Use pieces of nature that are relative to the season:  nuts, cranberries, gourds, branches, pinecones, corn stalks, etc.

Friday Favorites: Missoni for Target

It has been the talk of the week:  Target's hugely successful recent release.  You've all read about how Target's website crashed, and stores were sold out within the hour, but what do you really think of the Missoni collection?  The Panther checked it out and actually scored a cute little sweater.  Here are some of her favorite pieces in the collection.

Color Inspiration: Sunflower Yellow

As the seasons change the Panther craves color that is bright and sunny like summer but warm and comforting like autumn.  Whether you are bringing it into your home decor, or adding it to your wardrobe, the perfect color for the season is sunflower yellow.

Interiors are lovely in this shade of yellow.  Look how comforting and rich the walls are in this living room.

A big fan of using bright sunflower yellow in her interior design is Kelly Wearstler.  We love her look on the cover of her book, Modern Glamour.

Here is another Kelly Wearstler interior with a lot of punchy bright yellow accents.  I love the yellow club chairs and the classic ginger jar lamps in this room.

Yellow is a great accent to wear with black.  This outfit has a lot of yellow but is put together nicely.

LOVING this vintage 1970's shirt dress.  Stay off of ebay because the Pather is bidding on this one.

Not brave enough to rock the head to toe yellow?  A bright little accent can go a long way like this chiffon silk scarf.



Yellow is often the color associated with cowardice but the Panther finds it cheerful and daring.  Bring it in your home and rock it in your wardrobe... Panther style.

Transitioning Your Home from Summer to Fall

The seasons are changing.  The leaves are starting to change and there is a crispness in the morning air.  The Panther still wants to hold on to summer though.  Here are a few subtle changes you can make in your home to welcome in autumn, without rushing it in.

Sunflower Wreath:  Sunflowers start in mid summer and last through fall.  They are a wonderful flower that transcends the season.  Welcome your guests and welcome in autumn with a sunflower wreath on your front door.

Fresh Flowers in Autumn Tones:  Homes are always cheery with fresh cut flowers.  You don't have to do bouquets of autumn leaves and gourds just yet.  Instead of selecting the bright pinks and reds of summer, select blooms in warm autumn tones.

Pears and Apples in Bowl:  These are the fruits of the season and the colors are lovely.  Fill a favorite basket, bowl or tray with pears and apples and use as a cheerful centerpiece.

Candle Groupings:  Candles are beautiful anytime of year but large groupings are nice in the autumn.  Fill your fireplace with pillar candles in varied heights or set up a grouping on a tray.  You get the atmosphere of the fire without the extreme heat from an actual wood fire in your fireplace.

Just Add Raffia:  Raffia is inexpensive and a fun addition to your decor.  Tie raffia bows around pillar candles, votives or vases. 

It is good to start subtle as the seasons change.  Try a few of these tips to welcome Autumn in.

Color Inspiration: White the Right Way

Before we know it Labor Day will be here and our chance to wear white will be gone.  Some people avoid white all together thinking it looks too summery, too cold, too stark, or just too hard to keep clean.  White is quite elegant however and is even embraced by our friend the gilded panther.

If you are going to rock white, go all out.  Look how sharp Mel B and hubby look in head to toe white.  I love her white jeans with simple white tank and oversize jewelry.

I don't know why, but I've always wanted a pair of white gogo boots.  How darling are these with a graphic print mini skirt!

Not brave enough for the gogo boots?  These elegant strappy sandals in white will dress up everything from a sundress, business suit or your favorite jeans.

I've always been a fan of Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Chair.

It is especially elegant in white leather!

White accessories are a fun accent in home decor.

The look is just so clean and relaxing.

Everyone should have a set of all white dishes.  They're just so easy and so much fun

to mix and match.  You can change out your table linens for a new look.  Food looks lovely on a white field.

Happy Harlequin

The other day I was reading Design*Sponge, one of my favorite blogs, and it mentioned a new harlequin line by Ferm Living.  I've always loved the harlequin pattern and decided to share some harlequin inspiration today.

The harlequin pattern is simply repeating diamonds but it is classic and bold.  Named for the court jesters of yore who often dressed in suits of the diamond pattern in bright colors or high-contrasting black and white. 

Today harlequin is used in parquet wood floors, tiles, and textiles, and is done in every color combination you can imagine.

I love this tone on tone wall treatment in an oversized harlequin pattern.

This backsplash in black and white diamond-shaped ceramic tiles is a fun accent in this kitchen.
