Friday Favorites: Hot Cocktails

Baby, its cold outside, and the panther is seeking out warmth... in liquid form.  Hot cocktails are a wonderful way to warm up on a cold night and the panther's favorite drink on a cold winter night is a Hot Monkey hot chocolate.  Imagine the sweet, creamy, rich taste of hot cocoa mixed with the spicy, savory burn of hot peppers.

If you are not familiar with Hot Monkey, it is a fabulous vodka made right here in Portland, OR by the good people at New Deal Distillery.  All of their products are amazing but the panther is partial to the Hot Monkey.  Hot Monkey is New Deal Vodka that is infused with their secret blend of hot peppers.  The flavor is amazing!  It is definitely hot though.  Read more about New Deal and Hot Monkey here: http://newdealdistillery.com/Product/NewDeal/hotmonkeyvodka.html
The panther likes all things rich and velvety including her hot chocolate.  William Sonoma has a great dark hot chocolate but you can use your favorite brand.  Follow the directions for making the hot chocolate only decreasing the water by about 1 1/2 - 2 ounces.  Make sure your water is hot and that the chocolate is completely dissolved.

In a jigger, measure out 1 ounce of Hot Monkey and pour into your hot chocolate.  If you are a Hot Monkey virgin, you may want to decrease this measurement slightly.  It is spicy and should be used moderately.  The panther, as you know, is a spicy thing herself and prefers 1 - 1 1/2 ounces mixed in.  Stir the vodka in and top with a dollop of fresh whipped cream.

If you like more of a Mexican chocolate, drop in a cinnamon stick and top with some freshly grated nutmeg.  Even spicier and yummier!

Would you expect the panther to sip her hot cocktail from anything other than a gilded mug?

Cheers!
Enjoy and stay warm!
Let us know what your favorite hot cocktail is.
